
Judy Newell Murdock (b. 1954) holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a Concentration in Painting & Drawing. She says that she “got in trouble repeatedly in first grade for illustrating my spelling tests, so the need to make art has always been with me.” She has been in the Gadsden Art Association’s “Juried Art Show” several years, receiving an honorable mention in 2003 and 2017. Her works have been shown in other local shows, as well as being accepted into Birmingham’s prestigious Energen Art Competition for 3 years. Judy painted a violin for the "Art of the Violin" in Gadsden and has constructed props, set pieces, backdrops, and costumes for the Whole Backstage Theater in Guntersville, Snead State Theater Department, and Carlisle Elementary School. Judy also worked with Carlisle Elementary School several years creating and aiding the students with their Festival of Trees entries. She has taught basic drawing at Sardis Library and the Snead State Continuing Education program. Her solo show, "Faces," was at The Cultural Arts Center and Mountain Valley Arts in Guntersville. Judy has worked in oils, acrylics, watercolors, printmaking, drawing media, calligraphy, photography, papier mache, polymer clay, pottery, and other mediums. She states, “I work mainly in Portraiture, but I'm always exploring....”
